An update on life up here in Huntsville:
-We're becoming more involved in a Presbyterian church up here, and we really love it. Luke's been going to Wednesday and Friday morning men's bible studies. While the average age of this group is ~50 years old, Luke loves the mentorship and interaction with these men. We're also attending a new members class that walks through basic salvation then beliefs of the PCA Presbyterian Church. Every Tuesday night, we've got a small group that consists of 6 couples from 20's-50 year olds. It's been a great experience that has already allowed us to really bond with some people in the church.
-Luke loves his job. The biggest update lately is that he finally got a desk phone. It's been a really good experience thus far. One of the great things about his job (other than that he loves the work) is the flexibility that it provides. Basically, he just has to work 80 hours every 2 weeks (no set schedule) which works out perfectly with my crazy schedule. He usually goes into work early when I go in and stays until I'm done. He can leave early if he needs to and frequently gets all of his hours early (due to my crazy schedule) - which leads to Fridays off.
-As of Friday, I am 1/3 of the way done with my residency. It's hard to believe. I've finished all of my training as well as finished rotations in the Neurological ICU and Internal Medicine. I've already learned so much! This month I with be in the Cardiovascular Surgery ICU (people right out of open heart surgery) which I'm a little apprehensive about - hopefully we won't have a repeat of the pacemaker incident (refer to post from April when Kristen hit the floor).
-I'm working on a lot of projects right now - one of which I will present in Anaheim, CA in December. I'll be in Auburn and Birmingham this week for a residency conference which will be a nice treat from the normal routine. Plus, it will be a fun chance to hang out with the other residents - I love my co-residents! Hilarious, smart, and so great - each with their own quirks and personalities.
-We finally broke down and bought a new LCD tv after getting tired of the clunker of a tv we had. We've finally joined the rest of the world in the technology realm.
-We're hoping to meet our precious nephew very soon! Please pray for Kyle and Toria as they should find out very soon about the Ugandan court ruling and as their family is once again split across the globe (Kyle is back in Chicago working while Toria is still in Uganda waiting to bring Duncan home). We should be able to introduce you to our sweet little Duncan before too long! It can't come soon enough!
